MAINTENANCE OF POLLEN GERMINATION CAPACITY OF CARICA PAPAYA L., (CARICACEAE) ANJUM PERVEEN, SHAUKAT ALI KHAN AND RUBINA ABID
Abstract: Pollen germination of
Carica papaya L., of the family Caricaceae was examined upto 48
weeks in refrigerator (+4oC), freezer (-20oC, -30oC)
and freeze drier (-60oC). Pollen stored at low temperature
showed better germination percentage as compared to pollen stored at +4oC
and fresh. Freeze dried pollen (-60oC) showed the highest
germination percentage. Whereas lowering the storage temperature and
moisture contents tends to increase the viability. Department of Botany, University of Karachi, Karachi 75270, Pakistan. |
