Abstract: ABA plays a crucial role in plant growth and development in response to stress and it can inhibit root growth. Studies were carried out the importance of cell cycle regulation in mediating the primary root growth response of Arabidopsis to ABA. When seedlings were transferred to medium with ABA, the root growth rate and the GUS expression was progressively reduced with increasing concentrations of ABA. In addition, the expression levels of the CDKA, CDKB1, CDKB2 genes roughly were constant, however, the CYCB1 gene expression was down-regulated by ABA treatment. Our results indicated that the inhibition of primary root growth was mediated, at least partly, by an ABA-induced regulation of CYCB1 expression at the G2/M checkpoint.
