Abstract: In order to verify the ethnopharmacological effects of local plant, Sauromatum venosum (Ait.) Schott., on scientific lines the antibacterial activity including MIC and antioxidant activity of the crude extracts of its fruits were tested against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria using well diffusion method and 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity test. The results indicated a reasonable antibacterial potential and significant total antioxidant activity, thus supporting its traditional medicinal practices.
