Abstract
The present study was conducted during 2018-2019 at Haripur KPK Pakistan. The present study was aimed to evaluate the phytochemical screening, antioxidant activity, detection of phenolic compounds and proximate analysis of Calotropis species. The plants samples leaves, flowers and root were collected from Haripur and processed for the analysis on different parameters. alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids and proteins are mostly present in all parts of Calotropis procera and in Calotropis gigantea the phytochemical constituents present mostly in leaves and flowers. The Calotropis procera contained the higher phenolic compounds in its parts (leaves, root, flowers) as compared to Calotropis gigantea plant parts. Flavonoids were observed higher amount in leaves (2.803 mg/100g) and roots (2.135 mg/100g) of Calotropis procera. Carotenoid contents were higher in all parts of Calotropis gigantea as compared to Calotropis procera. Total phenols and flavonoids in all parts corelates to its high antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity done through DPPH method, that was higher in leaves of Calotropis procera (61.8 % DPPH inhibition). Enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) was higher in flower sample of Calotropis gigantea (837 µg/g) and root (892 µg/g) samples of Calotropis procera, While Catalase (CAT) was higher in root of both plant samples. The peroxidase (POX) was higher in root (4310 µg/g) of Calotropis procera and flower (4385 µg/g) of Calotropis gigantea. pH value was higher in Calotropis procera. Crude fiber was in higher quantity in all samples of Calotropis gigantea as compared to Calotropis procera. Fresh and dry weight is measured more in Calotropis procera samples, and Ash was observed higher in Calotropis gigantea samples.
