Global warming, climate change and major crop production: evidence from Pakistan
Nasir Abbas
Abstract
Climate change is threatening agricultural productivity and food poverty all across the world. Through an eclectic production model, this study investigates the dynamic link between changing yearly temperature and output of important crops such as wheat, rice, bajra, jowar, maize, barley, gramme, sugar cane, mastered oil, and cotton in Pakistan from 2000 to 2019. The projected outcome of panel econometric analysis indicated that rising temperature has a substantial negative influence on chosen crop output in the long run, but has no effect in the short run. The area under cultivation and fertiliser input, among other explanatory factors, had substantial beneficial impacts in both.
