Abstract
ABSTRACT The following investigation was carried out to check out the presence of metals in the three vegetables. The method used in this investigation was digestion method and atomic absorption spectrometry. Each vegetable has two sample one was grown in home and other was selected from market . The three vegetable samples were Raphanus sativa, Coriandrum sativum, Spinacia oleracea. The metals which were detected in these vegetables were Cu, Cd, Fe, Zn, Pb, Cr and Ni. The final result of the vegetable samples showed that the heavy metal concentration was in the range of Cu ( 0.6 10- 1.024), Cd ( -0.05-0.016), Fe (0.077-5.287), Zn( -0.081-0.309), Pb( -0.045-0.254) Cr ( -0.04- -0.001) and Ni ( 0.41-0.178) mg/kg respectively. In Raphanus sativa the concentration of Cd and Zn was high in sample which were grown in home and the value of Pb is high in sample taken from market . In Coriandrum sativum the value of Cu, Fe, Cr and Ni was high in sample taken from market. In Spinacia oleracea the value of Cu was high in sample taken from market. The levels of concentration of heavy metals in all samples below the recommended levels, given by the World Health Organization(WHO)and Food Agriculture organization(FAO). Key Word; Metal, vegetables, concentration
