Effects of Nigella sativa on gastrointestinal tract disorders

Abstract
Many people around the world are affected by gastro-intestinal tract(GIT) disorders. Acid reflux and gastric ulcers are typical GIT disorders that can have negative impact on person’s health. An effective solution has yet to be found, and the conventional medications currently in the market have risks and side effects.Hence, recently alternative medicines are exclusively being utilized for the ailments of various chronic disorders because of its natural source and with minimum or no side effects. Numerous medicinal effects associated with Nigella sative (N.sative) and its components i.e., dithymoquinone, thymol and carvacrol have been reported. This plant has variety of pharmacological properties, including anti-oxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and immunomodulatory. It also has various therapeutic properties, such as resolving bronchial asthma, jaundice, hydrophobia, paralysis, conjunctivitis, piles, skin diseases, anorexia, headache and GIT disorders. This review summarizes the effects of N.sative and its components with a focus on GIT disorders.
