EFFECT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF SALINITY ON MAIZE SEEDLINGS
Noor Muhammad
Abstract
This research was carried out to evaluate the adaptation to maize crops during the seedling stages. The maize crop is very important economically and for food purposes but is known to be salt sensitive. Consequently, it is essential to understand the salt response and tolerance of various maize cultivars that survive salt stress. Different characters were determined during seed germination and early-seedling stage. These maize seeds were sown in 2016-2017 at the Biology research institute experimental field of Southwest University of Science and Technology China. For this purpose, the first screening of the maize plant, and biomass weight checked out among mentioned genotypes under control environment in the greenhouse. The results showed that Jindan 999was identified as a salt tolerant promising genotype when grown in a harsh environment compared with other trail maize plants. On the other hand, Jinyu 819 is related to salt stress. The research highlighted that; Jindan 999 is the best species to be cultivated by the farmers and it can provide good vigor and high production for future development. Therefore, it is inferred that salt stress was one of the main reasons which decrease maize production. Thus, our finding suggested that the underscored species showed a good capacity of, biomass weight; possess a potent antioxidant defense system, deep roots within different layers.
