Abstract
Abstract
Citrullus colocynthis (L.) Schard is a very famous and effective medicinal plant having a lot of bioactive compounds in its stem, leaves, flowers, and fruit. It is well known for its folklore remedies against inflammatory and neuro-inflammatory diseases, heart diseases, diabetes, severe constipation, blood toxicity, cancer, liver inflammation, tumors, viral and microbial diseases. Based on stunning folklore medicinal importance, modern medicinal fields have conducted several types of research and gotten valuable results. But there is very limited work on the medicinal importance of the roots of Citrullus colocynthis. Evidences revealed about the use of the roots of the same plant as tooth stick which is claimed as very effective against foul breath, bad taste, gum bleeding, and tooth decay. Based on this folklore medicinal lead, this phytochemical analysis of roots of Citrullus colocythis has been conducted to uncover the bioactive compounds and to open new gateways for researchers to evaluate the roots more critically against tooth decaying agents especially, Streptococcus mutans and Candida albican.
