Abstract

Abstract Ficus carica and Tribulus terrestris have many application in the various field including business, medical specialty, drug delivery, diagnosis, electronics and communication. Aqueous extract of Ficus carica leaves and Tribulus terrestris whole plant were used as reducing agent to synthesize (AgNPs) by reduction of the silver nitrate salt. During this synthesis, a straw yellow color was one of the indication of product formation that was observed by using UV-vis spectrophotometry. The reaction proceeded resulted the formation of AgNPs which gives an absorption maximum wavelength of 430 nm. The reaction optimized conditions were 430 nm manixmum absorbance at a temperature of 75 °C using 4 hours reaction time at pH 7. After successful synthesize of silver nanoparticles different biophysical techniques were used including FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). All these sophisticated techniques also showed that these plants extracts contain secondary metabolites which used as stabilizing and capping agent for AgNPs. A particle size of about 40 nm was obtained by observing the XRD spectra. Similarly a size of less than 0.5 nm was reported by using the images of SEM which were disperse and cylindrical shape. Biological activities of these nanoparticles were tested against Gram positive as well as some gram negative bacteria using broth micro dilution assay.  The antibacterial effects against Gram negative bacteria was good but have no or less effect observed against positive bacterial species. Also these AgNPs have shown no hem agglutination and cytotoxic activity against human blood cells provide an opportunity to be used as therapeutic agents in the field of medicine.
