Abstract
The investigations were conducted with the using of twenty one genotypes [27 F1 hybrids and 12 Parents (9 lines and 3 testers)] of bottle gourd. The germplasms were evaluated for twenty three morphological, yield and biochemical traits viz., days to first male flower anthesis, days to first female flower anthesis, node number to first male flower appearance, node number to first female flower appearance, length of pedicel of male flower (cm), length of pedicel of female flower (cm), days to first harvest, primary branches per plant, vine length (m), number of node per vine, internodal length (cm), picking duration, peduncle length (cm), fruit length (cm), average fruit circumference (cm), average fruit weight (kg), number of fruit per plant, fruit yield per plant (kg), total soluble solids (%), reducing sugars (%), non- reducing sugar (%), total sugars (%) and dry matter (g/100g). The evaluations were conducted consecutively three seasons during 2020-21. The study revealed that mean squares due to genotypes were significant for all the traits during all two seasons (Y1 and Y2) and pooled. However, the analysis of variance on the basis of pooled revealed that mean squares due genotypes, environments, overall sum found significant for all the traits except overall sum for traits viz., average fruit weight (kg), number of fruit per plant, reducing sugars (%) and non - reducing sugar (%) in pooled. The investigations further revealed that high pcv, gcv and ecv were observed for Number of fruit per plant (36.59,29.90 and 21.08), Average fruit weight (26.29,19.71 and 17.39kg). High heritability coupled with low genetic advance were observed for primary branches per plant, fruit length (cm), days to first female flower anthesis and days to first harvesting indicated that the improvement of these traits through selection. The soil type of experimental site was sandy loam with average fertility level and pH in the range of 7.5-8.5.
