Abstract
ABSTRACT
A trial was carried out at the research farm of Amir Muhammad Khan campus of The University of Agriculture Peshawar during winter season 2016-17. Eleven treatments were examined in the research i.e. T1 = Control, T2 = Single Super Phosphate (SSP) granules (No coating, no Zn), T3 = Di ammonium phosphate (DAP) granules (No coating no Zn), T4 = SSP not coated + Zn@ 5 kg ha-1), T5 = DAP not coated + Zn@ 5 kg ha-1), T6 = SSP not coated + Zn@ 10 kg ha-1), T7 = DAP not coated + Zn@ 10 kg ha-1), T8 = SSP coated with Zn@ 5 kg ha-1), T9 = DAP coated with Zn@ 5 kg ha-1), T10 = SSP coated with Zn@ 10 kg ha-1) and T11 = DAP coated with Zn@ 10 kg ha-1). The experiment utilized ZnSO4, SSP, and DAPS as sources of fertilizers. SSP and DAP were treated with varying amounts of Zn to provide 0, 5, and 10 Kg Zn per hectare when applied at a rate of 90 Kg P2O5 per hectare. Randomized complete block design with three replications was adopted. The recommended amounts of N and K, at 120 and 60 kg N & K2O per hectare respectively, were also supplied. The results revealed all the treatment produced good yield and yield parameters of wheat and optimum uptake of P and Zn over control. However, the significantly (p<0.01) maximum plant height of 99 cm, 1000 grains weight (48.16 g), number of productive tillers m-2 (276), grains spike-1 (50) and straw yields (6243 Kg ha-1) were in treatment T9 (DAP coated with Zn@ 5 Kg ha-1) whereas the biological yield of 10620 Kg ha-1 and grain yield (4382 Kg ha-1 ) in T11 (Zn @10 Kg ha-1 coated DAP). As regards the P content, maximum grain P (0.332%) in T5, straw P (0.129 %) in T2 were recorded. In case of P uptake, the significantly (p<0.01) maximum grain, straw and total P uptake were 12.56, 12.37 and 24. 79 Kg ha-1 recorded in T11, T3 and T11, respectively. In case of Zn content and uptake by wheat, the significantly (p<0.01) maximum grain and straw Zn content and uptake were 27.71, 20.00 mg Kg-1 and 121.4 g ha-1, 124.8 g ha-1, respectively in T11 and total Zn uptake of 246.2 g ha-1 in T11 as well. The post-harvest data on soil pH and EC were non-significant. The maximum post-harvest organic matter content (0.68%), ext. P (5.30 mg Kg-1) and ext. Zn (1.59 mg Kg-1) were noted in T11. Apart from it, the above agronomic parameters, content and uptake of P and Zn and some post-harvest soil properties were minimum in control. It was concluded on basis of results that treatment T9 (DAP coated with Zn@ 5 Kg ha-1) and T11 (Zn @10 Kg ha-1 coated DAP) produced more yield, yield components in addition to maximum Zn uptake followed by P. It is recommended that the DAP must be coated with Zn@ 10 Kg ha-1 or with sole Zn@ 5 Kg ha-1 to be applied to the wheat for the maximum growth and produce of wheat in low fertile, alkaline and calcareous soil.
