CAUSE AND IMPACT OF SMOG ON HUMAN HEALTH, AGRICULTURE AND CLIMATE CHANGE IN PAKISTAN

Abstract


In this study, the causes and impacts of smog on the environment in Pakistan are following up. Smog, a form of air pollution, is a censorious matter in Pakistan, especially in the Punjab province, with cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad facing poor air quality due to industrialization and increased population. The primary causes of smog include the emissions from vehicles, industrial plants, burning of fossil fuels, and the recalculated dust in the air. These emissions contain pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and heavy metals, which contribute to the formation of smog. The levels of these pollutants in the air exceed the safe limits according to air quality measurements. The impacts of smog on the environment and human health are significant. Smog leads to various health issues such as respiratory diseases, skin infections, and reduced visibility, which can cause road accidents. Agriculture is also severely affected, with smog reducing the yield of crops, particularly wheat, which is a staple food in Pakistan. The presence of smog in the environment also contributes to climate change, altering weather patterns and causing adverse effects on the overall ecosystem. Furthermore, the violation of environmental laws contributes to the proliferation of smog, exacerbating the problem. Overall, smog is a serious threat to public health and the environment in Pakistan.
