Abstract

SCREENING OF DIFFERENT CANOLA GENOTYPES AGAINST CANOLA APHIDS (LIPAPHIS ERYSIMI KALT)   Farishta Naureen and Shah Alam Khan Department of Plant Protection Faculty of Crop protection Sciences The University of Agriculture, Peshawar -Pakistan June, 2024 ABSTRACT The field experiment was performed in NDF, The University of Agriculture Peshawar during 2022-23 to study the population trends of Mustard aphids (Lipaphis.erysimi) in four selected genotypes Waster, Dur e Nifa, China and Zahoor. The experiments was laid out in RCBD design. The Result revealed that that genotype Waster was tolerant to L. erysimi infestation with mean number of (15.41 aphid/ 10 cm inflorence) compared to tested genotypes. The Highest mean number of L. erysimi were recorded on Genotype Dur-e-Nifa with (83.98 aphids/ 10 cm inflorence and considered as susceptible to L. erysimi infestation. The aphids started to appeared in 1st and 2nd week of January peaking at 4th week of February. The decline started in 3rd week of May and gradually disappeared in month of April. Host plant resistance is a key pillar in IPM program. Two tests (Antixenosis and Tolerance) were conducted in biological control laboratory, The University of Agriculture, Peshawar to study the resistance of tested genotypes. Antixenotic character of the selected genotypes were tested from the preference of the aphids to the plants after 12, 24 and 48 hours. The results showed that Waster genotype had antixenotic character with (4.00 aphids/plant) compared to other genotypes. The results regarding tolerance components was tested in four selected genotypes. The results revealed that the maximum percent Dry weight change and TI value (78.150 and 0.1049  ) was recorded on genotype Dur e Nifa while the lowest Percent Dry weight change and TI (44.880 and 0.0427) was recorded on Genotype zahoor compared to other selected genotypes and the genotype zahoor recorded the minimum losses with 20.98% and were considered as tolerant genotype against L. erysimi infestation. Considerate these host plant resistance practices can help the progress of even more resistant canola genotypes
