Abstract
A factorial experiment using the completely randomized design with three replications was conducted at the laboratory and greenhouse of Islamic Azad University of Shirvan in the crop year 2018-2019 to study the possibility of cultivating the medicinal plant Galbanum (Ferula gummosa Boiss) at various planting dates. The first factor was planting date at four levels (Feb. 20, March 6, March 21, April 4) and the second factor four different types of treatment (the control, primed seeds, dormancy-broken seeds, and tissue culture). Leaf number, leaf length, tuber length, dry weight, and survival percentage. The results showed that planting date and seed treatments had significant effects on leaf number, leaf length, tuber length, dry weight, and survival percentage at the P≤0.01 level, and the interaction effects of planting date and seed treatment significantly influenced survival percentage at the P≤0.05 level. Comparison of the means revealed that the largest leaf number, leaf length, tuber length, dry weight and survival percentage belonged to the Feb. 20 planting date and the seed priming treatment. The results showed that leaf length with tuber length (0.879**), plant dry matter content (0.522*); tuber length with plant dry matter content (0.707**) and percentage survival (0.406*); plant dry matter content with percentage survival (0.509*) had the highest positive and significant correlation. Also, for stepwise regression analysis was Plant dry matter content was the first variable to enter the model and explained 26 % of variations. The next variable was leaf number and these two variables explained 33 % of variations in the percentage survival. Considering these results, and taking into account the importance of planting date in cultivation of the galbanum medicinal plant in Northern Khorasan Province, the Fe. 20 planting date and the seed priming treatment were suggested as the most suitable treatments for achieving the highest production level.
