Abstract
Gasteroid Agaricaceae have both ecological significance and economic importance within the field of macromycetes. The phenotypically variable species Lycoperdon perlatum was analyzed both morphologically and molecular genetically based on Pakistani specimens. This species is characterized by young yellow to off-white, later olive-brownish pear-shaped fruiting bodies, whitish exoperidium warts, which are rubbed off easily leaving an areolate pattern out of small granules on the endoperidium. Its identity was confirmed by sequencing. A comprehensive description, microscopic analysis of the basidiome, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrograph of spores and phylogenetic analysis are provided.
