A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS OF SIX SUGARCANE VARIETIES
Abstract
Present studies were carried out at the experimental feid arca of National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC). Islamabad during 1998-99, Six exotic sugarcane varieties (CP84-1198. CP85-1491. CPBB-1165. CPB9-846. TCP86-3368 and CP7]-400) were included in the study. The study wis conducted to evaluate these varieties for their morphological description. Morphological differences in various paris as ın stalks. Icaves, blade joints and in general appearance were noted in all the varieties It is therefore contended that the qualitative and quantitative characters ane essential for the identification of a proper varicty for cultivation in different ecological regions of Pakistan, which are described and discussed in the present study
