ANTIFUNGAL POTENTIAL OF BELL PEPPER GERMPLASM, PLANT EXTRACTS AND CHEMICALS TOWARDS SOUTHERN BLIGHT (SCLEROTIUM ROLFSII)
FAIZAN ZAFAR
Abstract
Bell pepper suffers from several diseases but among them Southern blight is the most destructive disease caused by Sclerotium rolfsii. For selection of resistant varieties seeds of ten varieties of bell pepper were collected from Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad. The field experiments were conducted in experimental area of Department of Plant Pathology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Among these, two varieties (TSP-041 and Corral F1) give resistance response with respectively 3.4 and 3.43% less mortality , three (Freedom F1, Super Globe F1 and SP-042) give moderately resistant response with respectively 6.73, 6.76, and 7.26 mortality percentage and two varieties (Asha and Extra 2) exhibited moderately susceptible response with respectively 13.43 and 13.60% mortality while remaining three varieties (SP-041, Alena F1, and Savio F1) give susceptible response with respectively 16.66, 20.23, 23.33% highly mortality against southern blight disease of bell pepper. Among all four chemicals (Systhane, Matalaxyl+Mancozeb, Cymoxanil+Mancozeb and Rescue) Systhane gave maximum disease reduction (4.30%) at 0.25% while Rescue showed minimum disease reduction (15.54%) at 0.25% concentration. Among all four plants extracts (Neem, Amaltas, Onion and Garlic). Neem gave maximum disease reduction (40.27%) at S/15 while onion give minimum disease reduction (49.20%) at S/15 concentration.
