A SYSTEMATIC UPDATED REVIEW OF BIOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF INDIGENOUS MEDICINAL PLANTS OF PAKISTAN

Abstract
Plants have been a regular source of medicine since the primeval times. An adequate proportion of novel bioactive compounds have been discovered from plants, worldwide. The purpose of current review is to define a summary of medicinal plants of Pakistan for which biological/pharmacological activity has been scientifically investigated. In compiling this systematic and updated review, literature survey has been thoroughly carried out in order to combine previous studies and reports comprising the biological properties of medicinal plants found in Pakistan. Multidisciplinary scientific information includes scientific name, common name, family, plant part with potential pharmacological activity, type of biological/pharmacological activity reported and references to the studies conducted so far. Proper utilization of naturally growing plants of Pakistan especially those of Himalayan range could lead to socio-economic development of individuals and the country.
