ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF DIFFERENT ALGERIAN BEE PROPOLIS SAMPLES
SAMIRA NAIR
Abstract
This study is designed to evaluate antibacterial properties of 7 ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) samples collected from different regions of Mascara (North-West of Algeria). Antibacterial action of the EPP was estimated in vitro by the disc diffusion method against three microorganisms (Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella. typhi and E. coli). Obtained results indicate that EEP showed significant antibacterial activities. Our findings showed that all bacterial species exhibited different levels of sensitivities towards the tested propolis extracts. Furthermore, ethanol 85% extracts were more effective against the studied microorganisms compared with ethanol 50% extracts. The shown antimicrobial potential of propolis is of potential medical interest.
