REVISION OF GRASSES FROM WESTERN HIMALAYAN MOUNTAINS POONCH DISTRICT AZAD KASHMIR, PAKISTAN

Abstract
The objective of this paper was to compile check list of grasses of District Poonch Azad Kashmir Pakistan. Poonch, a Western Himalayan region, occupy an area of about 2700 Km2 administratively divided into Rawalakot, Bagh, Sudhanoti and Hawaili districts. To attain the objective literature was surveyed (check lists, flora and catalogue) and selected localities of Rawalakot were visited to collect voucher specimens. Based on literature and field surveys finally the check list includes 64 species belonging to 39 genera. Poa showed highest species richness with 5 species followed by Bromus and Lolium with 4 species each. During field work focusing on Rawalakot and its allied areas 37 grass species belonging to 26 genera were recorded. On the basis of above results it is concluded that Poonch district is under explored taxonomically. Therefore, continuous floristic studies are needed to complete check lists of other families of angiosperms as well.
