Abstract

Abstract Provided in this paper is detailed taxonomic evidence, based on comparative morphology, to establish the delimitation of Rubia manjith Roxb. ex Fleming as a separate species from its closely related R. cordifolia L. in Jammu & Kashmir. This species clearly differs from R. cordifolia in possessing ovate leaves with deeply chordate base, reddish flowers, short pedicels, long petals and two unequal bracts. Since R. manjith is a new plant record for the Jammu & Kashmir, India, a detailed taxonomic description and micro-photographs of diagnostic features are provided to facilitate its easy identification in the field.
