DETERMINATION OF SOME YIELD AND QUALITY CHARACTERISTICS AMONG INDIVIDUAL PLANTS OF LAVENDER (LAVANDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA MILL.) POPULATIONS GROWN UNDER MEDITERRANEAN CONDITIONS IN TURKEY

CIGDEM SONMEZ
Abstract

The research was carried out on the individual plants which are maintained from the fertilizing lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Mill.) qualified as population during the growing period. In this research, the main aim was to find out the opportunity of chance for found characteristics in the individual plants; to determine the existence of promising plants which are due to provide the continuation of the study under Mediterranean condition and lastly to determine the genotypes which are able to supply the most quality and yield. In the study, the characteristics such as the plant height (cm), the flower height (cm), fresh plant yield (g/plant) and the essential oil rate (%) of 260 plants in the first year and 257 plants in the second year of research. The output data were subjected to statistical analysis, minimum, maximum, mean, CV values and frequency distribution of characteristics were measured. In the individual plants, the highest drug flower yield were 33.90 and 69.00 g/plant in first and second years of study respectively. The highest and the lowest essential oil content was 4.58% and 0.07% in 2015, 3.55% and 0.05% in 2016 respectively. The results of research indicated that there were great variation spectrum among the individual plants which were obtained from the seeds qualified as population in Lavandula angustifolia Mill, the existence of suitable types in terms of quality and yield, the possibility of using these superior genotypes in concur with suitable methods in plant breeding programs can be help to developing variations. Keywords: Essential oil, Lavender, Lavandula angustifolia, Frequency Distribution
