EXPRESSED SEQUENCE TAG AND INTER-SIMPLE SEQUENCE REPEAT MARKERS RESOURCES FOR GENETIC DIVERSITY ANALYSIS OF FIG (FICUS CARICA L.)
NADER ABDELSALAM
Abstract
Fig (Ficus carica L.) which belongs to family Moraceae, is one of the earliest cultivated fruit-bearing trees in north of Africa. Twenty-one local cultivated fig accessions were collected from different localities from Egypt and Libya. Eight morphological traits of leaves were used to characterize the fig accessions. Frozen young leaves were ground to a powder in a mortar with liquid nitrogen to extract DNA using CTAB modified. Thirteen EST common Fig primer pairs and twelve ISSR anchored primers were used. In Egypt, the accessions are dispersed from Sinai at the east to El-Saloom at the west and from Alexandria at the north to Aswan in the south. Hence, there are no breeding programs were carried out to characterize or improve the Egyptian fig accessions. The genetic diversity for the fig accessions was calculated.
