Abstract
Chromium resistant strain Brevibacterium CrT-13 isolated by Faisal and Hasnain (1998) was used to check, resistance against mercury, zinc and cadmium and their uptake ability of these metals was evaluated. Mercury, zinc and cadmium was estimated in pellet (take up/accumulation), washing of pellet (loosely bound/adsorbed) and supernatant (left over/unavailable) of the strain. Mercury, zinc and cadmium uptake ability of the strain was checked. Mercury uptake ability of Brevibacterium CrT-13 was less. The strain has great ability to volatilize the mercury. The strain can uptake zinc. Brevibacterium CrT-13 cannot tolerate CdCl2. Protein analysis of the strain under metallic stresses revealed that it has not synthesized new polypeptides with all metals. Brevibacterium CrT-13 synthesized new polypeptides of 34KD, 33KD and 23KD under Zn stress.
