Anxiolytic activity of ethanol seed extract of Lagenaria siceraria (molina) standley

Abstract
Lagenaria siceraria (Bottle gourd) is a vital fruit vegetable grown profusely in different areas of Pakistan. Various diseases have been treated with Lagenaria siceraria in traditional medicine. The plant is a rich source of pharmacologically important active constituents. In this study, neuro-pharmacological screening of the plant was conducted to evaluate its potential against anxiety in mice. Ehtanol extract of seeds of Lagenaria siceraria seeds was administered via oral route in the doses of 100 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg for continuous 21 days in mice. The hole board, stair case, elevated plus maze and light/dark box test were functioning to evaluate anxiolytic activity.
