Effect of Ultra sonic seed treatment on rice seedlings under waterlogging stress
Leilei Kong
Abstract
Erratic germination of the seeds is one of the main problems of rice cultivation. To improve the germination and crop establishment, presowing seed treatment with an ultrasound was tested in this study. The pot-experiment was done to investigate the effect of ultrasonic on seedlings under waterlogging conditions. Rice seeds were treated by ultrasonic waves before transferred to the pot. Ultrasonic treatment includes; seed treatment in dry state(S1), wet state (S2), and control (CK). While, waterlogging treatment include; control (W0), flooded1.0~2.0cm (W1), and flooded 2.0~3.0cm (W2). Data on seed germination percentage, leaf area, basal diameter, SPAD value, root and shoot lengths, peroxidase and catalase activity of seedlings were collected. The results show that under the waterlogged condition, ultrasonic treated wet seed increased seedling rate significantly. Ultrasonic treatment both of wet and dry seed improves the seedling quality, POD, CAT activity, while it decreased the MDA content.
