Abstract
Ethylene induced flowering of Bromeliads. A DELLA homolog in Aechmea fasciata was cloned, bioinformatic analized and named as AfGAI. Fluorogenic quantitative PCR (qPCR) showed the expression level of AfGAI in A. fasciata plants was age related, which was high in adult and low in juvenile. AfGAI responded to exogours ethylene differently between andult and juvenile plants. The AfGAI expression increased in juvenile plants but decreased in adult plants 24 h after ethylene treatment. Western blot results indicated that the AfGAI protein contents decreased in juvenile plants and increased in adult plants by 24 h after ethylene treatment. Over expression in Arabidopsis indicated that AfGAI was involved in the regulation of flowering. AfGAI delayed the flowering of Arabidopsis. AfGAI is likely involved in the ethylene induced flowering of bromliads.
