INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE OF MEDICINAL PLANTS FROM MUSK DEAR NATIONAL PARK (MDNP) NEELUM VALLEY AZAD JAMMU AND KASHMIR, PAKISTAN.

Abstract
The modernization of life and rapid population growth causes reduction about the traditional knowledge of medicinal plants. Current study was designed to evaluate the indigenous medicinal plant resources in Musk Deer National Park (MDNP), located in Gurez valley District Neelum Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), which aimed to prepare a check list of medicinal and aromatic plants, determined their traditional uses and pharmaceutical value of selected medicinal plants, determine anthropogenic pressure and conservation status. Ethnobotanical information was obtained with the help of open ended semi- structured questionnaire and through household interviews. To check the reliability of the information given by different informants, informant census factor (ICF) and fidelity level (FL) was calculated. The categories Intestinal complaints, diarrhea, vomiting, and Stomach disorder have highest (ICF) value (0.80), followed by Bronchitis, cough, throat infection, boils, flue and fever: burns, malaria, skin disorders, spleen and kidney problems show (ICF) value (0.79) and (0.78) respectively. Its mean these diseases are dominant in the study area. The highest fidelity level (FL) shown by Saussurea costus (100%), Berberis lycium (100%), Geranium wallichianum (100%), Bergenia ciliata (100%) and Senecio chrysanthemoides (100%), followed by Mentha longifolia (95%) and Swertia petiolata (90%).The plants of study area are greatly reduced by human activities. The major factors which reduce biodiversity are construction, agriculture land, fire wood, grazing, drought and urbanization.
