Abstract
Tea is the most common worldwide beverage as it contains remarkable nutrients, especially bio-elements like essential heavy metals and its balanced levels essential for better health construction, growth and maintenance while excess may cause health consequences. The present study is focused on variation in the levels of heavy metals in various brands of commercially available black tea and green tea samples were collected from local market. In this perspective, concentrations of heavy metals Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb in tea extracts of different brewing time and ground tea were determined by AAS applying wet digestion method. Results disclosed the alteration in leeching power of metals present in tea extracts and without brewing tea samples and their healthier as well as side effects with respect to levels of essential and non-essential metals. The variation in levels of considered metals were discussed with the reference to the international guidelines set by FDA and compared with RDA and previous worldwide studies as well.
