Muhammad Aslam Shahid
Abstract
Present study was conducted to investigate the growth, yield and nutrient availability to date palm. The study was carried out for two consecutive years i.e. 2012 and 2013. The parameters included in the study were fruit setting, yield and quality of Dhakki. Three fertilizer i.e. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was applied at different levels. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replication. Half dose of Nitrogen while full dose of Phosphorus and Potassium were applied plant -1 in bands during first week of January and remaining half dose of Nitrogen was applied during 3rd week of February. Quantitative and qualitative parameters data of fruits were recorded during course of study. The results revealed significant variation among the treatments for most of the parameters such as fruit size, fruit drop, yield and quality during both years of study. Amongst treatments, T5 (NPK@1100+700+600g) improved fruit characteristics, yield and quality as compared to other fertilizers treatments. While maximum fruit set were observed in T6 (NPK@ 1200+800+700g). Most of these parameters were found lowest in T0 (control). The authors arrived at conclusion that treatment T5 (NPK@1100+700+600g per tree) can be recommended for obtaining maximum yield and good quality of Dhakki date as assessed during 2012 and 2013.
