NUTRIENTS EPIGENETICS MODIFIERS IN CANCER
Farah Abid
Abstract
Epigenetic mechanism involved changes in genetic material are the ones that mediate a phenotypic effect but does not cause alteration in DNA sequence. Epigenetic mechanism is necessary for normal development in healthy life. Dietary components have arisen as a new field in cancer epigenetic research. Cancer is a heterogeneous disease that is driven by alteration in genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. Epigenetic machinery in cancer consists of DNA methylation, histone modification, and RNA associated silencing. Dietary components that are targeting the epigenetic mechanism are discussed in this review. This review attempts to highlight the epigenetic machinery and the dietary components with their epigenetic mechanism and their potential use in epigenetic cancer therapy
