SCREENING OF EUPHORBIA HELISCOPIA LEAVES EXTRACTS FOR THEIR ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY
Fiaza Amir
Abstract
Samples from the leaves of E. heliscopia were studied for their antimicrobial activity. The results indicated samples of E. heliscopia revealed different levels of antimicrobial activities. Maximum growth inhibition was shown by ethyl acetate against all studied microbes. The tested microbes were also sensitive to n-butanol and crude methanolic extract. The activity of all the studied microbes was reduced by n-hexane and water extracted fractions except P. aeruginosa and E. coli at lower concentration. B. subtilis, K. pneumonia and C. albicans were sensitive to water extracts. The gram positive bacterium which show high susceptibility was S. aureus while B. subtilis was the most resistant one. P. aeruginosa showed maximum susceptibility among Gram negative bacteria and K. pneumonia revealed some resistively.
