C.Y.J. Cheng
Abstract
The Earth’s surface is fixed. It provides platform to perform almost all human activities. The growing population demands more land for cropping and other socio-economic activities and also revises its utilization. At present some 13.40 billion ha. (11percent) of the earth’s land surface is used for crop production and about 2.7 billion ha. of land is available for further extension of crop land. The growth rate of population of the world at present is 2, 28,973 persons daily. Hence there is increasing demand for food and shelter every day. It has remarkably reduced the man-land ratio. Under the circumstances even a small patch of land has its own priority. Hence it is high time to convert waste and unused land for better utilization before claiming of new land. Therefore the basic concern of today’s world is proper conservation, management and utilization of land resources for human welfare.
