Abstract
In the present study, forty five rust species on forty three host plants have been described and illustrated on the basis of their morpho-anatomical characters from different areas of Pakistan including Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Most of the species described belong to the genus Puccinia. Along with twenty five species of Puccinia, two species each of genus Aecidium and Phragmidium and eight species of Uromyces have been described. Other species of order Uredinales described in the present work include Cerotelium fici, Chrysomyxa pyrolae, Chronartium ribicola, Diorchidium digitariae, Monosporidium andrachnis, Melampsora epitea, Tranzschelia pruni-persica and Pucciniatrum agrimoniae. Three species of Puccinia and one species of Uromyces have been described for the first time from Pakistan in this work. These include Puccinia cuneata, P. montanensis, P. nysalindia and Uromyces punctatus. In addition some plants have been described as new hosts for previously described rust species from Pakistan. These are Poa attenuata for Pucinia brachypodii var. arrhenetheri, Poa annua for Puccinia brachypodii var. major, Carex nubigena for Puccinia caricis var. dimorpholepis, Avena sativa for Puccinia coronata var. avenae, Agrostis stolonifera for Uromyes dactylidis, Indigifera oblongifolia for Uromyes orientalis, Calamagrostis epigejos for Puccinia leersiae, and Koeleria phleoides for Uromyces vossaie. Twenty six species of rust fungi have been previously reported from Pakistan, but in the present study, they have been redescribed from new localities.
