Ramsha Habeeb
Abstract
Agriculture sector plays a significant role in the economic prosperity of advance countries as well as in developing countries and it is a key source of revenue for majority of population. In this study an attempt has been made to examine the crop yield revenue of Punjab, by ranking the districts according to their contribution in agricultural GDP of Pakistan’s economy. Data related to different districts of the Punjab, Pakistan for the time period of 1989-2016 have been used to conduct the study. A Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) technique namely, Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is used for this purpose. Therefore, in order to make fair comparison, parametric normalization of crop yield has been made first. The results concluded that Kasur, Bahawalpur and Khushab are highest ranked districts while Nankanasahib, Islamabad and Rawalpindi are lowest ranked districts of Punjab, Pakistan.
