VAM FUNGI FROM SUNFLOWER FIELDS OF SINDH WITH SOME NEW RECORDS FROM PAKISTAN MARIA HAMID1*, SALEEM SHEHZAD2

Abstract
Abstract Different sunflower growing fields of Sindh like Malir, Gharo, Thatta, Sakro including University of Karachi were surveyed for the isolation and identification of VAM fungi from the soil. Spores were counted at the time of cultivation as well as at the time of harvesting. In all areas, the quantity of VAM spores increased at the time of harvest as compared to the time of cultivation.Twenty four different species of VAM fungi belonging to 10 genera of Glomeromycota i.e. Acaulospora, Ambispora, Archaespora, Claroideoglomus, Gigaspora, Glomus, Paraglomus, Pacispora, Rhizophagus, Scutellospora were identified. Of these, eight fungi viz., Acaulospora delicata, Acaulospora gedanensis, Ambispora jimgerdemanni, Archaespora undulata, Glomus arborense,, G.pansihalos, Pacispora scintillans and Scutellospora gregaria appeared to be new records from Pakistan not hitherto reported.
