ASSESSMENT OF PHYTOPLANKTON DIVERSITY AND PHYSICO CHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF CHASHMA LAKE, PAKISTAN

Abstract
This study was carried out to find the distribution of phytoplankton, their seasonal and spatial variation with physico-chemical parameters in Chashma Lake. A total 77 species of phytoplankton were found in Chashma Lake during June 2014 to May 2015. These species consisted of 05 taxonomic groups namely Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta, Euglenophyta and Oochrophyta. Relative occurrence of these groups were found as; Cyanophyta 39.90%, Chlorophyta 33.4%, Bacillariophyta 24.88%, Euglenophyta 1.3% and Oochrophyta 0.41%. All these groups showed variation with change in season and location which reveals that the physico-chemical parameters affect the distribution and abundance of phytoplankton in Chashma Lake.
