Wild and cultivated vegetables of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan

Abstract
Current study describes the vegetable resources of the state of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Detailed surveys were conducted from February 2016 to December 2016. Interviews and questionnaire method was adopted to investigate the relevant information. The study revealed that a total of 87 plant spices belonging to 25 plant families and 56 genera are used as vegetable in study area. Among all the species 58% were cultivated and 42% were wild. The study area is enriched with the vegetables because of suitable agro-climatic conditions. Wild vegetable can also be cultivated domestically to overcome the nutrition needs and medicinal cures because these are enriched with essential phyto-chemicals. The current study is important from nutritional point of view to overcome the food demand in different areas of the world. Key words: Plant resource, vegetables, Rabbie, Khareef and native peoples.
