SURVEILLANCE OF BOTRYTIS BUNCH ROT (GREY MOLD) DISEASE IN LOCAL MARKETS OF RAWALPINDI AND ISLAMABAD

Abstract
Grapes have importance with respect to its consumption and wine production throughout the world. In Pakistan, Grapes are grown in three provinces of country. Several fungal diseases occur in both pre and post-harvest stages in which Botrytis bunch rot (grey mold) is a very destructive post-harvest disease. In this study, three major markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were visited to find the disease incidence and the morphological characterization of pathogen. Ten different shops and stalls were selected for sample collection from each market. The highest rate (34%) of incidence was recorded in Mandi Morh Rawalpindi market while the lowest disease incidence (21%) was found in Dhok Kala Khan Market. The disease incidence were highly influenced by hygienic conditions, ventilation and proper post-harvest handling methodology.
