Abstract
Abstract The current research initiated with aim to assess the parents with their general combining ability and their crosses for specific combining ability for yield and yield related attributes. Three maize varieties were used for making crosses with three selected testers using line×tester mating design. The resulting nine crosses along with six parents were evaluated at experimental trail of plant breeding and molecular genetics department, university of Poonh, Rawalakot,.during summer 2017. Analysis of variance for all attributes among the genotypes revealed significant differences indicated the magnitude of variability which is the prime objective of a breeding program. The parents Kissan (23.795) and Ghuari (22.360) were screened as a best general combiner for grain .yield and Ghuari was also the best general combiner for .most of the traits. Among the crosses SZP-13200×Ghuari and NCEV-1530-11×Kissan exhibited desirable and highly significant SCA for grain yield. There these crosses might be utilized for evolving high yielding hybrids in maize.
