STUDY OF ETHNO-MEDICINAL SHRUBS AND TREES IN THE GRAVEYARDS OF TEHSIL MANSEHRA, PAKISTAN

Abstract
Present study analyzed the ethno-medicinal values of shrubs and trees of the graveyards from tehsil Mansehra. Random sampling was made through 105 graveyards occupying an area of 0.298 km2 and data were documented via semi-structured questionnaire by local inhabitants of the surrounding areas. A total 67 ethno-medicinal plants (48 tree and 19 shrubs) were investigated belonging to 47 genera and 32 families. Family rosaceae was dominating family. The fruits of 33%, leaves of 32%, bark of 18%, whole plant 4%, roots of 4%, seeds of 3%, flowers of 2%, gum of 2%, gall 1% and stick of 1% were found to be used for ethno-medicinal purposes. The plant species were found to be used for 74 different treatments purposes. Among them maximum (9.7%) were used as astringent followed by dysentery and laxative 5.2% each, cardiotonic (heart stimulant) 4.8%, anthelmintics, diaphrotic, diarrhea and diuretic 3.96% (each), carminative 3.5%, antirheumatic, antiseptic and expectorant 2.6% (each).
