YIELD AND YIELD ATTRIBUTES OF WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVUM L.) UNDER THE APPLICATION OF 2,4-D HERBICIDE
SAIMA ASHRAF
Abstract
The growth of weeds are suppressed by using a chemical such as herbicide, however non-targated crops also effected by the herbicide. In Present research, the effect of various doses of 2,4-D on yield and yield components of wheat (TriticumaestivumL) cultivars was estimated. The trial was planned in split-plot design (RCBD) with three replicates. Four concentrations of 2,4-D (0 M, 0.04M, 0.01 M and 0.03 M) applied at the tillering stage of five varieties (Aas-2011, Millat-2011, NARC-2009, Punjab-2011, and NARC-2011) of wheat with the help of manual pump by foliar spray. The cultivars of wheat treated with the herbicide shown significant results for yield attributes (number of grain per spike, spike length, 1000 grain weight, number of spikelets per spike, harvest index, biological yield and grain yield). The cultivars like Aas-2011, NARC-2011 and Millat-2011showed improved in yield characteristics with 0.03 M dose of 2,4-D. so the use of 0.03 M dose of herbicide in the field of the wheat indicated harmless effects on yield components of the crop with respect to other concentrations
