Abstract
The bioactive compounds of Iraqi monica forssk wild edible plant were extracted by microwave assisted extraction method, the compositions were analyzed by GC-MS and showed about 20 bioactive compounds, the highest compound was Glycine, N,N-dimethyl-, methyl ester, followed by 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid, n-Hexadecanoic acid and N,N-Dimethylglycine. Antioxidant activity of monica forssk ethanol extract showed a significant IC50 value = 93.93 µg/ml and compared with vitamin C IC50 = 79.69 µg/ml as positive control, the assay of antibacterial activity against four types, showed only Staphylococcus aureus inhibition zone =10. Cytotoxicity of monica forssk against liver cancer cells (HCAM) showed a significant toxicity ( IC50 =541.7) µg/ml and AO/EB staining displayed apoptosis effect of cells morphology. In Vero study, monica forssk extract was a low toxic compared with high toxic of doxorubicin as positive control by using kidney normal cells. The results indicated the importance of Iraqi monica forssk compositions in nutrition system to prevent liver cancer and enhance liver defense system against diseases.
