STUDY ON PHARMACOLOGICAL APPRAISAL OF GALIUM TRICORNUTUM
ISHRAT PARVEEN1
Abstract
Medicinal plants assume as an essential part for enhancing the human wellbeing. This is because of bioactive constituents. Galium tricornutum is an herb discovered throughout the world. From ancient time, this plant has traditionally been utilized to treat different diseases. This study was intended to investigate the phytochemical and defensive impacts of G. tricornutum against antimicrobial, phytotoxicity, and oxidative stress, cytotoxic and antidiabetic activity. In the present study the methanolic and aqueous extract of G. tricornutum was analyzed for presence of different elements and bioactive groups and for in-vitro antibacterial, antifungal, cytotoxic, antioxidants and phytotoxic assays by following standard protocols. Elements analysis indicated high concentrations of Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, Cd, Co, Cr, Ca, Mg and Na. Qualitative analysis showed presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates and saponins. The cytotoxic, antidiabetic, antioxidants, antifungal, antibacterial and phytotoxic efficiency of G. tricornutum confirmed with positive response which might be due to the presence of bioactive compounds. The results of present study indicated that G. tricornutum are useful for medicinal point of view and further works are needed to isolate and purify the bioactive compounds present in G. tricornutum and to elucidate its possible mechanism of action which involved these bioassays.
