EXPRESSION ANALYSIS OF GENES INVOLVED IN THE ESSENTIAL OIL TERPENOIDS IN TWO MEDICINAL POGOSTEMON CABLIN (BLANCO) BENTH. CULTIVARS
PUYUE OUYANG
Abstract
Pogostemon cablin is a widely-used aromatic plant in China. In P. cablin essential oil, patchoulol and pogostone are two important terpenoids. In this study, the expression profiles of ten genes related to terpenoids synthesis in two main medicinal P. cablin cultivars (cv. Shipaigensis and cv. Gaoyaogensis) in China were evaluated using qRT-PCR. And patchoulol and pogostone contents were analyzed by GC-MS and HPLC respectively. The gene expression and phytochemical results will contribute to the understanding of terpenoids biosynthesis in medicinal P. cablin and support the better cultivation and application of P. cablin.
