Regional variation and influence factors of the main bioactive components in Lycium Barbarum L. clutivars in China

Abstract
To understand variation and influence factors of Gouji fruits quality, main functional and nutritional components contents of different cultivars of L. barbarum L. planted in five areas were determined, environmental factors influencing Gouji quality were estimated. Results shown planting location dramatically changed functional and nutritional components in Gouji fruits of the same cultivar. For cultivars planted in the same area, polysaccharides (LBP) and zeaxanthin dipalmitate (ZDP) contents in fruits presented significant differences, while flavonoid and carotenoid contents did not. In addition, analyses on correlations between functional and nutrient compositions and meteorological factors shown the accumulation of total flavonoids and protein is related to mean diurnal temperature difference and annual sunshine hours, while total carotenoids, calcium and iron contents are affected by altitude and precipitation. These results suggest Gouji fruits quality is influenced by both environmental and genetic factors. It will provide scientific basis for Gouji cultivation and quality improvement.
