ETHONBOTANICAL STUDIES AND DIVERSITY OF INDIGENOUS VALUABLE PLANTS OF SHAMOZO AREA, TEHSIL SALARZAI, DISTRICT BAJAUR (ERSTWHILE FATA), KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN

Abstract
This study was carried out to gather information about the valuable and medicinal plants of Shamozo valley, District Bajaur (Ersthswile FATA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The research area was thoroughly visited in all four season of the year and total 104 species of plants belonging to 49 families were collected. Out of which 65.38% species were herb, 25% species of trees and 9.62% specie of shrubs, and were recorded. The results showed that among the collected plants, 68 species (65.38%) were used as medicinal plants followed by vegetable and food, 12 species (11.53%) as a fuel and wood, 10 species (9.61%) for furniture, 4 species (3.84%) as a thatching. 2 species (1.92%) hedges purposes, 2 species (1.92%) for fruit and 4 species (3.84%) as an ornamental. Most the medicinal recipes are prepared form the fresh collected leaves of the plant in the form of decoction which was then orally given to people for healing purpose. These medicinal recipes were use mostly orally in the form of decoction. Deforestation, carelessness, soil erosion and increase in population were serious threats to the precious medicinal plants of the study area.
