THE GENETICS OF FLOWERING TIME IN RAPHANUS SATIVUS L. H. GENOTYPE- ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION
AHSAN A. VAHIDY[1] AND RICHARD W. HARTMAN

THE GENETICS OF FLOWERING TIME IN RAPHANUS SATIVUS L. H. GENOTYPE- ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION
ABSTRACT:
The genotype-environment interaction for flowering time in Raphanus sativus was studied by 'rowing 10 Early, 2 Check, and 10 Late lines in a Randomized Complete Block Design at two locations luring two times of year. Data on 50 percent flowering time were found to be significantly heterogeneous or the four plantings. However, the data became homogeneous after transformation based on the performance of Check lines in the individual plantings. The effects of the transformation are described and justification for such a transformation is discussed. Breeding lines were grouped, based on heir pedigrees, in four different ways. Analyses of variance of transformed data were done for each type of grouping, separately for the individual plantings as well as combined for all four plantings. The magnitudes of the various variance components were quite different for Early and Late lines. The combined analyses of variance for Early and Late lines nullified some effects that were quite significant in the separate analyses. An attempt has been made to identify the possible

INTERACTIVE EFFECTS OF (2-CHLOROETHYL)- TRIMETHYLAMMONIUM CHLORIDE AND PHYTOHORMONES ON GROWTH OF WHEAT SEEDLINGS
ABSTRACT:
The effect of (2-chloroethyl)- trimethylammonium chloride (CCC) in combination with her GA or IAA on the growth of wheat seedlings were studied. Increasing concentration of GCC increased the shoot length but increased the root length with the exception of 10 ppm CCC where no significant difference as compared to control was observed. The inhibitory effect of CCC on shoot which was reversed by

EFFECT OF (2-CHLC ROETHYL) 7 TRIMETHYLAMMONIUM CHLORIDE ON THE GROWTH AND MINERAL UPTAKE IN SAFFLOWER (CARTHAMUS TINCTORIUS L.)
ABSTRACT:
When safflower was grown in the presence of CCC, a significant reduction in the plant height and weight was observed. Cycocel, however, does not appear to have any significant effect on the mineral content of the plants.

PHOTOTROPIC RESPONSE OF DECAPITATED COLEOPTILES
ABSTRACT:
Unilateral illumination of decapitated coleoptiles of Avena and Zea, in the first positive nge, showed phototropic response when supplied with indoleacetic acid. These observations are in- rprted as support for the hypothesis that the primary effect of light is to impair the basipetal movement ' the auxin.

SEED RADIOSENSITIVITY OF SOME CROPS
ABSTRACT:
Radiosensitivity estimations utilizing the morphological criterion; Germination count X Seedl- g height (both percent of control) x 100— seedling performance; were made for Allium cepa L., Pisum itivum L. cv. Laxton Superb and Alaska, Lycopersicon esculentum Mills cv. Glamour, Euphorbia gascae S. 2n and 4n, Citrullus vulgaris S. cv. Crimson sweet, and Cucumis sativus L. cv. MR 17. The ctrapolated field performance yielded D50 values (in Kiloroentgens) of 40.5, 12.0 and 15.3, 40.0,
