Abstract
The present paper deals with a study of eleven species
of Peridinium from inshore
waters of Karachi. All the species are first reports from Pakistan’s coastal
area. Peridinium truncatum is recorded from the Indian Ocean for the first time. The species diversity
of Peridinium was very high from October to December,
1970, which is the post- monsoon period in the N. Arabian Sea. Most species indicated the coastal nature of the area under study. The temperature and salinity ranges within which all the species
were found growing in nature are given.
